The total are of the roads of the city is 53,168.8 m². The length of the roads is 3,321.1 km.

The municipal property of the city includes:

• 405 bridges
• 35 roadways
• 25 tunnels
• 152.2 km of reinforced embankments

Various programs of constructing pedestrian zones and zones of higher comfort, as well as connecting the street-road network of St. Petersburg to the beltway are being implemented in the city. Within the framework of the Bright City program, the work on creating artistic lighting of bridges is being carried out.

Air transportation
The Pulkovo Airport

• 2 airport complexes Pulkovo-2 and Pulkovo-1
• Location: 16 km southward to the downtown
• Total area of the airport: 1,479 ha
• The area of the freight complex of the airport is 6 ha
• Equipping:
  • 2 runways: 3,782 x 60 m, and 3,401 x 60 m
  • a system of main, connecting and auxiliary taxiways
  • 3 passenger terminals
  • 2 freight terminals
• The Pulkovo-1 airport is intended for servicing internal (Russian) routes and routes to and from the CIS countries. The total area of the terminal building is 40,640 m². The passenger capacity is 2,500 passengers per hour.
• The Pulkovo-2 airport is intended for servicing international flights. The total area of the terminal building is 19,740 m². The passenger capacity is 1,200 passengers per hour.
• In 2002, Pulkovo serviced over 2 million passengers, including around 900,000 passengers of international airlines.

River transport

The Severo-Zapadnoe Parokhodstvo includes a number of facilities located in the Leningrad, the Vologda, and the Novgorod regions, including seven ports, three shipbuilding and ship repairing plants and repair and testing facilities.

In accordance with the Program for the Development of the Subway and Other Types of High-Speed Off-Roadway Transportation before the Year 2015, which was approved by the Government of St. Petersburg, 41.5 km of new subway lines and 21 new stations are scheduled to be constructed and put into operation during the period of 2002-2015.
