Finnish Legends about St.-Petersburg Foundation

St.-Petersburg could not be constructed on such a muddy, disastrous, God damned marsh with the methods, unknown in that time. It would have to sink part by part. Therefore, it was built on the heaven and then  was placed on the land very carefully.

St.-Petersburg was built  by the mighty man on the deep. He has built  the first house of his city and it was swallowed by the deep.The second house was swallowed too. Only, when the third house was swallowed by the deep, the mighty man became angry and decided to think the matter over. After a while he found the solution of the problem. He built the city on his own huge palm and placed it on the deep. Thus, the deep could not swallow the whole city and the city stayed safe and sound.
